LIRR CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY AT THE BELLEROSE TRAIN STATION

The Village has been informed by the MTA/LIRR that a project to perform some much needed structural repairs to the Bellerose LIRR Station will begin shortly.
The actual construction phase of this project is scheduled to begin at the end of October and continue through the first quarter of next year, and perhaps into the start of the second quarter of next year. Pre-construction activity, including the building of a temporary, forty (40) foot extension to the station platform, is scheduled to begin this week.
During the construction phase of the project, the eastern half of the Bellerose Station platform will be closed. This means that the station waiting room will be closed for this period as well. Also, although a temporary, forty (40) foot extension to the platform is being constructed to replace a portion of the station’s platform that will be under construction, this extension will not have an overhead awning. Rather, there will be shelters similar to bus shelters on this extension. Furthermore, on eastbound trains, doors will only open on the last four cars and on westbound trains, door will open only on the first four cars. The LIRR will provide signage and announcements when this will occur.
Nearly all construction staging for this project will be situated on the Bellerose Village side of the train station. The MTA/LIRR has obtained permission from Bellerose Village for the work crews for this project to park in the Bellerose Village train station parking lot. Because of this, we should be able to avoid the issue of having workers parking on our residential streets.
The only construction staging anticipated on the Floral Park side will be for approximately two days in which a concrete mixer truck and a concrete pump truck will be positioned on Atlantic Avenue. This will necessitate the closing of one lane of Atlantic Avenue for these two days. The MTA/LIRR has stated that they will provide “flaggers” to direct traffic during these two days. The Village will coordinate this temporary, partial closure of Atlantic Avenue with the Floral Boulevard reconstruction project, so that school district bus activity and other activity along Atlantic Avenue, can continue with as little disruption as possible.
Work hours for this project will be 7:00 am to 3:00 pm weekdays and no weekend work is anticipated by the MTA/LIRR at this time.
Finally, we are advised that this project will not cause any changes to the train schedule at the Bellerose Station. There may be intermittent changes to the train schedule due to the ongoing Third Track Project, but these changes will be unrelated to this Bellerose Station construction project.
Once construction details and schedules have been firmed up, further information will be provided.
