The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has informed the Village that a switch will be installed on the Mainline to the west of the New Hyde Park station and to the east of the Floral Park pool. This work will be occurring over the next 3 weekends (September 8th – 11th, 15th – 18th, 22nd – 25th and will include overnight work. The Village is informed that the majority of the work will take place primarily in New Hyde Park, where the switch is being installed, but that the work zone area will extend into Floral Park. Please note that this work will also include overnight work. Each weekend’s work will be different, but it is a major work program. Please see the below for further details from the LIRR.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments, you can contact the LIRR at: 718-217-5477 (this is an automated response, but you can ask for “more options” and then ask for “comments and concerns” to speak to a person.) or by email at MTA-LIRR https://contact.mta.info/s/customer-feedback
SWITCH INSTALLATION – NEW HYDE PARK STATION
- This weekend, the LIRR will have a track outage beginning at approximately 2am Sunday morning until 5am Monday morning.
1. This weekend’s scope is mostly prep work for the installation of both end points of the switch over the following two weekends (15th -18th and 22nd-25th).
2. This work will be impactful and disruptive to residents who live adjacent to our right of way.
The LIRR states that:
- During the weekdays over the next several weeks, the LIRR will also be working in and around the area as we look to minimize our work during the weekends.
- The LIRR has advised their staff to park along S 2nd Street in New Hyde Park whenever possible so that they can minimize their impacts in the residential areas.
*Work is weather dependent; dates are subject to change to take advantage of favorable conditions.
